Monique Hazel is a gothic and fantasy author from the perpetually sunny east coast of Australia. When not writing of magic and the macabre, she is annoying her cat and watching baking shows.

Her debut novel The Dreamwitch comes out in February 2027.

Some extra, mildly interesting things about me are that I love going to the cinema and bingeing television shows and religiously rewatch The Conjuring film franchise. I recently became a sports enthusiast and devotedly watch Formula One, tennis, and ice hockey (my twin sister is to blame). I adore astronomy and talking about conspiracy theories, and determined to make the perfect loaf of bread. My favourite characters of all time are Sansa Stark and Claudia de Lioncourt.

The Dreamwitch (2026)

An adult gothic fantasy that’s perfect for fans of Crimson Peak and Penny Dreadful. Lush with romance, mystery and the strangeness of dreams, witch Matiah Blood travels to a foreign country to help a boy suffering from nightmares. While Wolford Manor bleeds rot and dreams, Matiah can’t stop falling for her brooding and insomniac guard.

The Gravewitch (2027)

The indirect sequel to The Dreamwitch and perfect for fans of The Alienist. Something dreadfully strange is happening in the city’s graveyards. Imogen collaborates with the new gravedigger at Saint Evangeline’s Cemetery to find the stolen corpses. Lewis Delaney is rude, handsome, despite being covered in dirt half the time and sets Imogen’s skin ablaze like no one else. But he needs this job while he moonlights as a pianist. They lead an amateur investigation across graveyards and under gaslamps.

Dark, melancholic, and deeply romantic, The Dreamwitch is the decadent fantasy of my dreams. Written with lush, indulgent prose, Monique Hazel has deftly crafted a world ready to sweep you away to candlelit halls, rotting autumnal gardens, and gauzy dreamscapes. Truly a stunning debut from an author I can't wait to read more of - Kalie Reid, author of The Sacred Space Between

Immersive and intricate, I was completely absorbed by this cleverly-built world where the lines between dreams and reality are blurred. The Dreamwitch is a brilliant addition to the genre. - Lyndall Clipstone, author of Tenderly, I am Devoured

Crafted out of gossamer wings and dripping with crystal decadence... a haunting gothic tale complete with spine-tingling suspense and agonizing romance." - Grace Morrow, author of We Become Darkness
